John Grant

Paul Barnett — who usually writes under the pen name John Grant — has written over seventy books, both fiction and non-fiction. Beginning in 1989, he wrote Legends of Lone Wolf, a series of novelisations based on the Lone Wolf gamebooks, in collaboration with Joe Dever.

He has received Hugo Awards for The Encyclopedia of Fantasy (1998) and The Chesley Awards for Science Fiction and Fantasy Art: A Retrospective (2004), the World Fantasy Award for The Encyclopedia of Fantasy (1998), and the Locus Award for The Encyclopedia of Fantasy (1998).

Alyss, a mercurial and enigmatically powerful character introduced in the Legends of Lone Wolf series, also figures in his novel The World.
