Spectrum Games Emulation

The Emulators page on World of Spectrum lists dozens of Spectrum emulators, so it can be a bit confusing. We suggest SpecEmu2.6 as a feature-packed Sinclair ZX Spectrum emulator that is reasonably easy to use.

When you have downloaded and unzipped the archive, run the SpecEmu.exe file. You will need to alter a few settings, so try the following:

• Click the View menu and alter the zoom to 200%.
• Click the Options menu and select Model/48K. The game will not load properly in any other mode. (This is a problem with the original game code, not the emulator.)
• Click the Options menu again and select Options (F8).
  • On the Tape tab, untick Flashload Standard Speed Tape Data.
  • Tick Auto Load Tapes.
• (Optional) On the Sound tab select High Quality AY Emulation and Audio Output: Stereo ABC

Then File/Open the .TZX file and watch it load much faster than it ever did back in 1984!
